Pharmacist Job Opportunity

Merco Medical Staffing Limited is seeking a skilled Pharmacist to join their team in Oxford. As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and quality of practice prescribing.

Job Responsibilities:
  • The workday is 9 hours, with a 30-minute lunch break and 45 minutes for coffee, split into 30 minutes during the morning session and 15 minutes in the afternoon session.
  • A typical day will be structured as follows:
Morning Session:
  • The first two hours are dedicated to handling repeat prescription requests that the admin team could not process due to alerts or expired authorizations.
  • The remainder of the session involves routine appointments, such as pre-booked medication reviews, or reviewing blood test results.
Afternoon Session:
  • Routine appointments will continue, including pre-booked medication reviews.
  • Depending on the pharmacist's experience and skill set, some sessions may focus solely on chronic disease reviews, such as diabetes management.
  • One pharmacist will be allocated an entire session to work on the triage list, handling urgent tasks and quick wins, and scheduling routine appointments as needed.
  • One session per week will be reserved for contract-related work, with additional admin sessions allocated for audits.
  • If trained in minor illness, pharmacists may be assigned sessions to manage acute cases, seeing or calling patients with urgent medical needs.
  • There will also be occasional meetings with the prescribing lead to address practice prescribing issues.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist patients with medication-related problems and queries.
  • Provide support to general practice staff regarding repeat prescriptions and medication inquiries.
  • Collaborate with the prescribing team to ensure the safety and quality of practice prescribing.
  • Perform medicines reconciliation, including managing new medication requests and reviewing repeat medications for newly registered patients.
  • Support training initiatives, such as independent prescribing, if not already qualified.
  • Have opportunities to develop skills in specific areas of interest, such as respiratory care, diabetes, or minor illness.
  • Conduct structured medication reviews for all patient groups.
  • Participate in clinical audits to enhance patient care and safety.
  • Contribute to contract-related work, helping the practice achieve targets for QOF, IIF, and the prescribing incentive scheme.
  • Assist with the diagnosis, management, and review of chronic diseases, subject to experience and training.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy & registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Proven experience in a community or hospital pharmacy setting.
