About the Role

Cpl Life Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Data Center Technical Operations Specialist to join our team in the Greater London Area. As a key member of our Data Centre Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team, you will play a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of critical infrastructure and ensuring 100% availability of our data center operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and build of new data halls and data centers, ensuring compliance with established practices and procedures.
  • Produce detailed reports and documentation on all aspects of critical infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.
  • Manage on-site sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring all work performed meets established standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-party colocation providers and their staff.
  • Review vendor RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements) and MOPs (Methods of Procedure) to ensure adherence to safety practices.
  • Operate and manage routine and emergency services on critical systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to improve energy efficiency in the data center.
  • Project manage operational aspects of the data center, including asset and inventory management.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts and contribute to the development of the DCEO Team.
  • Work 12-hour rotating day/night shifts and demonstrate flexibility to travel between sites.
Requirements
  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of work experience in a critical operations environment.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Good understanding of data center critical infrastructure, including diesel generators, chillers, cooling towers, CHW systems, air handling units, UPS, HV/LV electrical distribution systems, fire detection, and suppression systems.
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex and fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS7671 18th Edition.
  • High/Low Voltage Authorized Person (AP) experience.
  • 6+ years of data center engineering/operations experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout, as well as low-voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
