Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom Dovetail and Slate Ltd Full time

Consider a unique opportunity in the realm of education within a correctional facility.

This role offers a distinctive and rewarding experience, allowing you to contribute to a team that significantly impacts the lives of learners, enhancing their future prospects and fostering positive change.

Working in a correctional environment presents its own set of challenges. In this setting, learners spend considerable time away from their families, often grappling with the consequences of their past actions. Education serves as a vital tool for these individuals, providing them with focus and hope.

Through education, inmates can acquire essential skills, improving their chances of future employment and reducing the likelihood of reoffending. Many arrive without basic literacy or numeracy skills, and the educational programs offered ensure that all participants engage in Functional Skills in Maths and English, paving the way for vocational training in areas such as Carpentry, Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating, Plastering & Tiling, Industrial Cleaning, Barbering, Catering, and Horticulture.

The education department within the facility is equipped with classrooms and workshops, providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning. You will receive comprehensive support from a dedicated team of education professionals, with opportunities for training and professional development.

Position Overview:

This is a full-time administrative role focused on educational services within a male correctional facility.

The Management Information Systems Coordinator (MISCO) plays a crucial role in providing administrative and secretarial support to the educational team. Ideal candidates will possess a meticulous attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, often high-pressure environment.

The responsibilities of this role include supporting the curriculum management team and educators in the daily operations of the department, ensuring the establishment and maintenance of an efficient administrative office, managing student data processing, and performing various secretarial tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately input and analyze learner data using spreadsheets or databases, including creating simple data management tools and generating precise reports.
  • Verify the accuracy and compliance of all documentation and learner records for processing.
  • Draft and type correspondence, including memos, letters, reports, and responses to general inquiries, while also taking accurate minutes during meetings.
  • Perform general administrative duties and implement office procedures, including organizing and maintaining learner and staff records while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Process and record all resource orders, assisting in sourcing appropriate suppliers.
  • Manage telephone communications and visitor interactions, responding to general inquiries and liaising with key contacts in a professional manner.
  • Maintain and report on staff absence and leave records.

Position Details:

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday - 37 hours per week
Work Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Salary Range: £20,104 - £20,835

Leave Entitlement: 30 days plus bank holidays and up to 5 college closure days

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience in an administrative or secretarial capacity
  • Experience in data processing and entry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Previous experience in an educational environment is desirable
  • Possess a calm and patient demeanor

We seek enthusiastic and resilient candidates who approach their work with a humanistic perspective. This role may not be suitable for everyone, but those with a genuine interest are encouraged to explore this opportunity further.
