Job Title: Band 7 Ward Manager

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Band 7 Ward Manager to join our team at Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for delivering operational management, clinical leadership, and supervision to designated teams of staff within the Unit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure high-quality care is delivered to service users, respecting their needs and those of their carers.
  • Lead by example, motivating and empowering others to provide excellent care.
  • Contribute to the development of services that meet CQC standards, including healthcare, infection control, health and safety, and catering.
  • Enable service users to make informed choices and involve them in the care process.
  • Manage budgets, staff resources, and non-pay/capital resources effectively.
  • Develop and implement regular appraisal and performance management systems for staff.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and administration, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to Trust policies.
  • Contribute to practice development, evidence-based mental health nursing, and clinical audit.
  • Work collaboratively with Clinical Leads, Lead Nurses, Service Users, Carers, and local Managers to develop effective and innovative services.
Requirements:
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with a clear record of ongoing continuing professional development.
  • Substantial experience at Band 6 level, with evidence of ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care.
  • Experience of running medication rounds, safe administration, and disposal of drugs.
  • Practical experience of providing high-quality care, exceeding expectations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly with adults with acute mental health issues.
  • Able to undertake clinical supervision, appraisals, mentorship, and teaching.
  • Significant relevant experience as a clinician, able to undertake thorough risk assessment, assess, plan, and evaluate service user care.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership, motivation, initiative, change management, and management skills in a clinical area.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and the NMC's 'The Code': Standards of Conduct, Performance, and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives.
