Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Embedded Tutor to join our team. As an Embedded Tutor, you will work closely with faculty to assess and enhance undergraduate writing skills in the School of Business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to provide personalized support for students in each course section
  • Read students' written assessments and provide personalized feedback
  • Meet with students individually and in group sessions to help them identify patterns of error and improve their writing abilities
  • Attend regular tutor training sessions and professional development opportunities facilitated by the Embedded Tutoring Coordinator

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of academic writing, including best practices, the writing process, and familiarity with locating and documenting reliable and credible sources
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with and interact effectively with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and assess programs and events
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including the ability to conduct internet research, utilize word processing and database software
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position, including the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • At least 18 earned credits of graduate coursework

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, preferably in Business, English, Rhetoric and Composition, or Professional Writing
  • Coursework in business writing, rhetoric/composition, or the equivalent
  • Professional proficiency in digital education technology
  • High-level reasoning skills
