Lifeguard Position at Barracudas Summer Camp

Working Hours: 09:00 - 16:30

Compensation: £529.53 per week - remuneration may vary based on age, experience, and qualifications.

Accountable to: Senior Camp Team, Area Manager, and Central Office. Barracudas is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young individuals, expecting all personnel to share this commitment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to policies and procedures as outlined in the Swimming Pool documentation.
  • Conduct daily inspections of water quality, signage, and flotation devices.
  • Provide safety briefings to swimmers at the commencement of each session and ensure compliance.
  • Guide non-lifeguarding staff in their responsibilities during swimming sessions.
  • Oversee and administer swimming assessments at the camp.
  • Maintain accurate daily and weekly records of swim assessments and flotation devices.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels of lifeguards are maintained in accordance with bather numbers.
  • Quickly identify emergencies and take appropriate action.
  • Ensure the swimming pool is securely locked when not in operation.
  • Proactively anticipate issues and prevent accidents.
  • Keep the pool area clean and ensure all equipment is stored properly.

QUALIFICATIONS

Possess a valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) from RLSS, STA, or HABC and provide the original certificate as proof of training.

  • Successfully complete a Barracudas Lifeguard Competency Assessment (LCA).
  • Exhibit mental alertness, self-discipline, physical fitness, and good auditory and visual capabilities.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the start of the contract.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK is required.
  • Provide satisfactory professional or academic references, ideally including one from a previous lifeguarding position.
  • Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or possess an existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
  • Participate in a Virtual Assessment Event if new to Barracudas.
  • Complete annual online training.
  • Attend an Induction Training Day prior to camp opening.

During the Induction Training Day, lifeguards will review the Swimming Pool documentation to familiarize themselves with their responsibilities and duties. It is essential to read this documentation before undertaking any lifeguarding responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations by diligently following instructions and maintaining a proactive approach to safety.
  • Activities organized or delivered must be suitable for the children in your care, aligned with your qualifications and expertise.
  • Encourage children to engage in new activities, ensuring the activity schedule is followed.
  • Supervise children's behavior to ensure safety, always being aware of their whereabouts and fostering open communication regarding behavioral expectations.
  • Adhere to all camp protocols, including registration and collection procedures, while supporting colleagues in maintaining Health and Safety standards.
  • Serve as a positive role model by promoting healthy lifestyles and good hygiene practices.
  • Report any concerns related to Child Protection to the Management Team or designated personnel.
  • Make reasonable accommodations for children with additional needs or medical conditions.
  • Prioritize the welfare and happiness of the children in your care.
  • Ensure the safe use of equipment during sessions.
  • The above responsibilities are not exhaustive, and you may be required to perform additional tasks as needed to meet the organization's objectives.
