About the Role

Gleeson Development Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Regional Commercial team. As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will play a crucial role in delivering the Group Business plan, Commercial objectives, budgets, and future growth requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial management principles, with experience in managing commercial functions, ensuring effective compliance, control, deployment, and performance management of quantity surveying. You will be responsible for achieving targets in relation to development budgets and commercial controls, as well as ensuring the commercial team proactively supports the attainment of key operational requirements, targets, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the work of the commercial function, ensuring effective compliance, control, deployment, and performance management of quantity surveying.
  • Take responsibility for achieving targets in relation to development budgets and commercial controls.
  • Ensure the commercial team proactively supports the attainment of key operational requirements, targets, and budgets.
  • Provide input into the Commercial Land Appraisal process and subsequent site commencement programmes.
  • Liaise with build management and regional and central services buying and procurement teams.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification or good experience in commercial management.
  • Highly proficient user of Coins and proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word packages.
  • Strong understanding of commercial implications of methods and sequences of design and build.
  • Broad finance/commercial awareness and technical knowledge.
  • Broad knowledge of the construction industry.
  • Highly tuned practical knowledge of commercial and financial management systems and controls.
  • Broad awareness of codes of practice that impact on commercial matters.
  • Knowledge of Construction Design Management Regulations.
  • Strong analytical ability, able to distil/mine data to identify key trends, issues, and value-add opportunities.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work closely with senior colleagues and all regional and Group functions.
  • Has energy and drive, able to positively influence others.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, with resilience and maturity to balance multiple priorities within a fast-changing and demanding environment.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills, able to influence operational practice to generate optimal commercial outcomes and results.
  • Good business management acumen and highly commercially astute.
  • Able to see and promote innovative ideas.
  • Ability and flexibility to travel to sites and Central Services essential.
