Job Overview

We are pleased to announce an exceptional opportunity for a Band 8a Lead Biomedical Scientist within our Automated Clinical Chemistry laboratory teams. This role encompasses leadership responsibilities across multiple sites, ensuring the highest standards of laboratory service delivery.

We are in search of dedicated and skilled Biomedical Scientists who are eager to enhance laboratory operations. One position will primarily focus on one of our main hospital sites, while the other will involve dual-site oversight, ensuring comprehensive support across our laboratory facilities.

South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology (SYBP) is undergoing a significant transformation aimed at fully integrating our pathology services. Our goal is to provide outstanding service to both patients and healthcare professionals within the Integrated Care System. We are committed to delivering innovative laboratory medicine solutions that enhance patient care, improve health outcomes, and support the evolution of healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

The main duties of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the leading expert in the local Biochemistry service, providing guidance and specialized knowledge.
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily operations of the Blood Sciences Biochemistry Laboratory, ensuring optimal service efficiency.
  • Procedure Evaluation: Regularly review and enhance Biochemistry procedures and methodologies in line with evolving guidelines.
  • Collaborative Service Development: Partner with leadership to formulate and implement a cohesive Blood Sciences service strategy.
  • Quality Assurance: Supervise analytical processes to guarantee timely and high-quality laboratory services.
  • Team Leadership: Foster staff development through effective delegation and professional growth initiatives.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and maintain a robust quality management framework.
  • Incident Resolution: Address and resolve complaints and incidents, promoting learning across the organization.
  • Equipment Oversight: Manage laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols.
  • Strategic Communication: Engage in policy development, report generation, and ensure adequate staffing, including out-of-hours coverage.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant BSc Degree
  • FIBMS (Blood Science) or equivalent qualifications
  • Registration with HCPC as Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist.
  • Leadership or management qualifications or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential

  • Senior management experience in an Integrated Blood Sciences department
  • Proven expertise in specialized analytical laboratory techniques.
  • Experience in human resource management, including engagement and leadership.
  • Familiarity with laboratory IT systems and departmental management.
  • Experience in risk management within a Pathology service.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and processes.
  • Experience in service and policy development.
