Manufacturing Engineering Technical Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineering Technical Specialist to join our team at Leonardo. As a key member of our manufacturing operations team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our NPI / Repair strategies and requirements for DFx events, ensuring efficient production processes, adherence to quality standards, and timely project completion.

The successful candidate will support the Future Combat Air Line of Business, helping to plan future manufacturing activities to deliver products to schedule, quality, and cost. You will be responsible for developing and executing the Operations NPI process, Repair Definition, DFx, and Manufacturing & Repair requirement strategies, aligning with Leonardo's lines of business throughout the UK.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing specialist input, including the application of specialist skills and knowledge, into a project team to ensure the delivery of technically sound solutions, meeting all stakeholder requirements within an NPI environment.
  • Harmonizing Manufacturing Engineering activities across multiple sub-system projects (UK-wide).
  • Leading failure investigations, prioritizing and championing solutions, and delivering results using known problem-solving techniques.
  • Working in a highly skilled team, providing key inputs and data to aid Operations decisions and failure review boards.
  • Tracking external developments and disruptive technologies to identify exploitation and knowledge sharing within the project team.
  • Ensuring the development of manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Acting as a Manufacturing Engineering authority to formally approve product / process / technology change.
  • Leading and delivering Manufacturing Engineering sections of the Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, maintaining governance through the Lifecycle Management process, and creating / contributing / reviewing and/or leading Manufacturing Plans.
  • Advising and participating in improving policies and processes within the operations framework.
  • Ensuring manufacturing decision-making information is robust with objectives and results.
  • Reviewing production schedules, reviewing production labour and material costs.
  • Preparing product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Creating a culture that improves manufacturing efficiency by generating innovative ideas and solutions, ensuring capacity analysis, simulation planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Reviewing manufacturing documentation, including input to process-specific risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, and specifications.
  • Assuring product and process quality by designing methods and confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Assuring manufacturing data, including routings, production plans, control plans, and electronic work instructions.
  • Promoting a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation.
Requirements:
  • Experience in leading NPI, Repair Definition, DFX Manufacturing & Repair requirement activities.
  • Manufacturing systems & process knowledge, including PLM, ERP, MES, and QMS/BMS.
  • Experience in Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with others using data and analysis to support line of reasoning.
  • A detailed understanding of the operational framework and business processes.
  • An understanding of cross-functional / commercial business processes and their own impact.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and the associated processes.
  • Experience of peer reviewing the work of others inside a product team and within a sub-Engineering Unit, ensuring the resulting actions are implemented.
  • Ability to communicate concepts in a non-technical way.
  • Confidence and ability to challenge / respond to technical / process issues while understanding the broad impact of solutions (systems thinking).
  • Ability to interact effectively and manage relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Been involved in capability and/or process development, demonstrating an ability to implement a change to working practices.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on process optimization.
  • Proficiency in engineering drawings and production documentation.
Desirable:
  • Experience with Electro Mechanical Systems.
  • Experience / Knowledge of Agile working practices / methodologies.
  • Experience in Aerospace / Automotive sectors.
  • Accreditation from a recognized Manufacturing Engineering awarding body.
  • NPI, Repair Definition, DFX Manufacturing & Repair requirement activities.
  • Manufacturing systems & process knowledge, including PLM, ERP, MES, and QMS/BMS.
  • Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with others using data and analysis to support line of reasoning.
  • Product / Drawing set configuration and control.
  • Lean Manufacturing & continuous improvement techniques.
  • Good all-round computer literacy, including all Microsoft Office applications.
