Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineering Technical Specialist to join our team on a hybrid-working basis. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in our manufacturing operations team, shaping NPI / Repair strategies and requirements for DFx events, ensuring efficient production processes, adherence to quality standards, and timely project completion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing specialist input, including the application of specialist skills and knowledge, into a project team to ensure the delivery of technically sound solutions, meeting all stakeholder requirements within an NPI environment.
  • Harmonising Manufacturing Engineering activities across multiple sub-system projects (UK wide).
  • Leading failure investigations, aware of all project issues, able to prioritise and champion solutions and deliverables using known problem-solving techniques.
  • Working in a highly skilled team, providing key inputs and data to aid Operations decisions and failure review boards.
  • Tracking external developments and disruptive technologies to identify exploitation and knowledge sharing within the project team.
  • Ensuring the development of manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Acting as a Manufacturing Engineering authority to formally approve product/process/technology change.
  • Leading and delivering Manufacturing Engineering sections of the Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, maintaining governance through the Lifecycle Management process, and creating/contributing/reviewing and/or leading Manufacturing Plans.
  • Advising and participating in improving policies and processes within the operations framework.
  • Ensuring manufacturing decision-making information is robust with objectives and results.
  • Reviewing production schedules; reviewing production labour and material costs.
  • Creating a culture that improves manufacturing efficiency by generating innovative ideas and solutions, ensuring capacity analysis, simulation planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Reviewing manufacturing documentation, including input to process-specific risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, specifications.
  • Assuring product and process quality by designing methods; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Assuring manufacturing data, including routings, production plans, control plans, and electronic work instructions.
  • Experience in leading NPI, Repair Definition, DFX Manufacturing & Repair requirement activities.
  • Manufacturing systems & process knowledge, including PLM, ERP, MES, and QMS/BMS.
  • Experience in Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with others using data and analysis to support line of reasoning.
  • An understanding of cross-functional/commercial business processes and their own impact.
  • Experience of peer reviewing the work of others inside a product team and within a sub-Engineering Unit and ensuring the resulting actions are implemented.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on process optimisation.
  • Proficiency in engineering drawings and production documentation.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with Electro Mechanical Systems.
  • Experience/Knowledge of Agile working practices/methodologies.
  • Experience in Aerospace/Automotive sectors.
  • Accreditation from a recognised Manufacturing Engineering awarding body.
  • NPI, Repair Definition, DFX Manufacturing & Repair requirement activities.
  • Manufacturing systems & process knowledge, including PLM, ERP, MES, and QMS/BMS.
  • Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with others using data and analysis to support line of reasoning.
  • Product/Drawing set configuration and control.
  • Lean Manufacturing & continuous improvement techniques.
  • Good all-round computer literacy, including all Microsoft Office applications.
