About the Role

The Cluster Chief Engineer is a critical senior position within the Clermont Hotel Group Central Support Office, responsible for ensuring group-wide property and facilities statutory and safety compliance. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager with a dotted line to the Group Chief Engineer, this role provides support to hotel operations and properties for all aspects of property maintenance, including technical support, budgeting, management of central contracts, and building fabric related Health & Safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the cluster-wide planned preventative programme (PPM) for all planned, cyclical, and reactive maintenance, including statutory requirements.
  • Conduct regular documented review meetings to assess and improve centralised contracts.
  • Ensure centralised contracts are managed effectively, with costs aligned with budget.
  • Collaborate with Cluster General Managers and Regional Operations Manager to report on maintenance budgets, including planned preventative and reactive maintenance (PPM) budgets.
  • Work closely with other relevant property team functions to develop and manage the 1, 3, and 5-year capital maintenance plans.
  • Develop and maintain the engineering governance and best practice guide, ensuring implementation and use across the cluster.
  • Ensure hotels comply with statutory regulations, such as Water Quality, Fire Safety, and Asbestos, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Review, develop, and direct statutory maintenance programmes to ensure equipment is maintained in compliance with relevant codes of practice and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the CHG internal procurement function to develop and manage regular competitive tendering plans for all third-party and in-house PPM, Quality, and Maintenance suppliers.
  • Manage central PPM, H&S, Quality, and Maintenance suppliers and advisors, ensuring contract compliance and acting as an escalation channel to hotels as required.
  • Develop and maintain the relationship with CHG's third-party audit partner, working in collaboration with the Group Risk and Compliance Team.
  • Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly reports for executive management on incidents related to cluster facilities matters.
  • Provide technical and engineering advice and support to the Executive Committee, General Managers, and hotel maintenance teams as needed.
  • Support Cluster General Managers in ensuring the right teams and expertise are in place at hotel level, including involvement in organisational and resource decision-making.
Requirements
  • Credible track record at group/strategic level for a multi-site organisation.
  • Technical understanding of regulatory requirements for maintenance and H&S.
  • Influence ability to influence at all levels from executive management to in-hotel maintenance teams.
  • Strong communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Prioritisation ability to prioritise business-critical workstreams in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Stakeholder engagement ability to work in a multi-stakeholder environment internally and externally.
  • Strong supplier management understanding of using external expertise and managing external suppliers.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in building the right teams, developing resources, talent, and career progression paths.
  • Demonstrable experience of senior and supervisory Estate Management work across large-scale property portfolios.
  • Demonstrable experience of working commercially, 'client-side', and within the high-end Hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrable track record of major incident management balancing operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong experience in H&S, risk assessment, and safe systems of work, safe task design, working equipment, and hazardous substances.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and promoting behavioural safety.
  • Demonstrable experience in policy development, implementation, and review, process development, legislative compliance.
  • Demonstrable experience in analysing audit and management information, including analytical tools, systems development, and data analysis, performance monitoring, and reporting.
  • NEBOSH/IOSH H&S qualifications advantageous.
