Position Overview

As a Commercial Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the expansion and enhancement of one of the busiest airports globally. This position is crucial for the execution and management of efficient financial and commercial strategies for large-scale, multi-disciplinary initiatives, typically valued over £150 million, contributing to the evolution of a highly efficient single runway airport.

Engaging throughout the entire project lifecycle, you will collaborate with skilled professionals across the construction division. These projects are designed to significantly elevate customer satisfaction, boost our revenue streams, and increase capacity, laying the groundwork for future airport advancements. Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Programme Commercial Manager, you will be integral to the team, overseeing all financial and commercial dimensions of a project, ensuring that all performance benchmarks are not only met but surpassed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing the commercial team for projects exceeding £150 million, inspiring, mentoring, and guiding the team to reach their full potential.
  • Overseeing the creation and upkeep of precise project financial plans and cost assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Managing all change control processes for the project and associated smaller initiatives as necessary.
  • Administering the project budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and validation of expenditures.
  • Facilitating the closure of all contracts related to the project, including the formulation and execution of project closure strategies.

Candidate Profile

The dynamic environment at Gatwick Airport necessitates a flexible and adaptable mindset, along with strong problem-solving abilities and an innovative perspective. You will be involved in diverse projects from inception to completion while collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as engineering, business, or construction.
  • Membership in a recognized professional cost organization.
  • Experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor on long-term programs/projects typically valued over £100 million in a relevant sector.
  • A proven track record in leading, mentoring, and developing teams.
