SPECIALIST IN CARDIOVASCULAR IMAGING

We are seeking applications for a role as a Specialist in Cross-sectional Cardiovascular Imaging. This position entails overseeing and interpreting cardiovascular MR and CT scans, as well as presenting imaging findings at collaborative clinical cardiovascular meetings. There is no requirement for on-call duties.

This full-time position is ideal for individuals who have completed advanced training in paediatric cardiology, adult cardiology, or radiology. Candidates with substantial experience in MR and CT imaging related to congenital heart conditions in both children and adults, as well as in paediatric acquired heart disease, are encouraged to apply.

The role is situated within the Cardiovascular MR and CT Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, recognized as one of the premier imaging facilities globally. The unit provides a comprehensive MR and CT service for the Cardiac Unit within the Cardiorespiratory Division, dedicated to delivering the highest standards of care.

Applicants must be eligible for registration with the GMC. Holding MRCP/MRCPCH/FRCR (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for this position. If offering equivalent qualifications or experience, candidates must provide written verification.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be accountable for the ongoing provision of Cardiovascular Imaging Services at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. Specific responsibilities will be tailored to the relevant skills and experience of the appointed specialist.

The role includes conducting clinical CT and MR scanning sessions, focusing on paediatric and adult patients with congenital cardiovascular conditions, as well as paediatric patients with acquired cardiovascular issues. During these sessions, the specialist will oversee image acquisition, assist radiographers with image optimization, perform post-processing of images, and engage in volumetric and flow quantification, along with report generation.

The specialist will participate in up to three weekly clinical meetings (joint cardiac conferences), presenting cardiovascular MR and CT studies conducted both within and outside the unit, thereby contributing significantly to clinical decision-making in a multidisciplinary team setting.

Additionally, the specialist will be involved in cross-covering lists and meetings during the absence of other consultants, ensuring the seamless operation of imaging services.

The unit performs nearly 2000 MR scans and 800 CT scans annually for both inpatients and outpatients, utilizing two MR scanners and one CT scanner. There is no out-of-hours scanning involved.
