Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a dedicated and skilled Cardiovascular Pharmacy Specialist to become a vital member of the Cardiovascular Pharmacy Team at King's College Hospital. This role requires a professional with strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership capabilities, who is eager to contribute to the advancement of pharmacy services.

King's College Hospital is recognized globally as a leading cardiac center, providing both secondary and tertiary care to a diverse patient population. The Cardiovascular division encompasses various sub-specialties, including interventional cardiology, heart failure management, electrophysiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular interventions.

We seek a proactive and motivated individual with substantial clinical or hospital experience to join our team. The successful candidate will exemplify teamwork and serve as a role model, demonstrating initiative and enthusiasm in enhancing, managing, and transforming pharmacy services while delivering a high-quality, evidence-based, clinically-driven pharmacy service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a deputy for the Principal Pharmacist within the Cardiovascular Care Group.
  • Serve as a specialist role model and expert in the medical management of the Cardiovascular Care Group.
  • Lead and oversee clinical pharmacy services in collaboration with the Principal Pharmacist.
  • Engage in outpatient clinics to provide and advocate for high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care.
  • Function as an independent prescriber to optimize patient care within the Cardiovascular Care Group.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary ward rounds, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Promote safe medication practices within the specialties of the Cardiovascular Care Group.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Chief Pharmacist to develop and support non-medical prescribing initiatives.
  • Contribute to the Trust Non-Medical Prescribing Group, managing Patient Group Directions and Written Instructions.
  • Develop, implement, and audit local clinical guidelines.
  • Supervise and mentor pharmacy staff at the ward level.
  • Provide education and training to healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust.
  • Engage in financial reporting, drug usage analysis, expenditure forecasting, and cost improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in clinical research and audit activities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • MPharm (Master's Degree) in Pharmacy.
  • Registered Pharmacist with professional registration from the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in pharmacy practice or equivalent experience.
  • Specialized clinical knowledge and skills pertinent to the area of practice.
  • Experience collaborating with senior healthcare professionals outside of pharmacy.
  • Proven experience in supervising others and developing protocols or guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Capacity to provide complex information on medicines use and clinical pharmacy to healthcare professionals at all levels.
  • Proficient in implementing and managing change.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to motivate oneself and others.
  • Registered independent prescriber or willingness to obtain this qualification.
