Position Overview

We are in search of a proactive and results-oriented Operations Process Leader who will oversee the stage/gate methodology from the New Product Development (NPD) handover to the product launch phase.

To excel in this position, candidates must showcase a solid history of achievements in process enhancement.

Adaptability and exceptional communication skills are essential, as we seek an individual capable of managing demanding workloads while fostering strong interdepartmental relationships.

This role will also involve leading a team of four, promoting a culture of ongoing improvement within the process division.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Operations Process Leader, you will be accountable for:

  • Overseeing the Process Technicians and Pilot Plant team.
  • Maintaining effective cross-functional collaboration between Process, Development, Technical, and Operations teams.
  • Participating in feasibility discussions and providing feedback on observations.
  • Ensuring that databases are consistently updated for the stage/gate process.
  • Managing the documentation of trial records, including recipes, specifications, and cost analyses.
  • Guaranteeing that projects adhere to the critical path timelines.
  • Planning and coordinating customer pre-production visits and launches with well-defined plans, agendas, objectives, and documented actions.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Conducting proactive reviews of non-conforming products.
  • Providing training on functional ingredients and process equipment awareness.
  • Exploring innovative processes and ingredients, assessing their applicability within our operations.

Required Qualifications:

To be considered for the Operations Process Leader role, candidates should possess:

  • A Degree or HND in a scientific discipline.
  • Prior experience in Process/Technical roles within FMCG food manufacturing.
  • A proven track record in team management.
  • The ability to engage with high-profile clients.
  • Experience with stage and gate methodologies.

New Product Launch Responsibilities:

1. Ensure the Process Team is adequately resourced and skilled.

2. Lead and manage stages 3 and 4 of the Gated launch process for Retail and B2B.

3. Oversee the workload of the Process Team across all sites to support launch plans and customer deadlines.

4. Ensure the Process Team receives the necessary Product Information Handover Pack from NPD.

5. Conduct weekly reviews of the Handover Packs and completed trials.

6. Facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders for trial approvals.

7. Ensure a smooth handover from Gate 4 to stage 5 to Operations.

8. Ensure compliance with policies and brand claims, including allergen management and HACCP.

9. Set up new parts on UNITY and prepare suitable process instructions.

10. Attend factory trials and scale-up productions, ensuring detailed trial reports are completed.

11. Foster collaboration between team members and customers, particularly their Process teams.

Continuous Improvement Strategy:

  • Review non-conforming products to ensure they are rectified promptly.
  • Identify and implement corrective actions and improvements.
  • Encourage team members to recognize opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Explore and evaluate innovative processes and ingredients.

Training and Development:

1. Provide comprehensive training for new employees in product understanding and processing.

2. Deliver functional ingredient training and equipment awareness for new hires.

Team Development:

1. Lead and mentor the team in their roles and responsibilities.

2. Support team members in their tasks and conduct regular reviews.

3. Manage personal development plans for the Process Team.

4. Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations at all times.

Essential Skills:

  • Problem-solving, project management, and team leadership experience.
  • Understanding of stage and gate processes.
  • Ability to engage with high-profile clients.

Desirable Skills:

  • Food safety certification (Level 3).
  • HACCP certification (Level 3).
  • Experience in producing mayonnaise and sauces in a controlled environment.
  • Experience in food manufacturing and bottling processes.
