About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Staff Nurse to join our Oncology team at The Christie, one of Europe's leading cancer centres. As a Staff Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive treatment and support to patients with various types of cancer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage acutely unwell patients, providing specialist oncological nursing interventions and recognizing deterioration in patients' condition at an early stage.
  • Provide palliative and end-of-life care, liaising with the multidisciplinary team and being the patient's advocate.
  • Effectively communicate with patients and relatives, demonstrating a pleasant and approachable manner and promoting a good working relationship.
  • Participate in the emergency/continuing care of patients, giving necessary instructions and ensuring accurate documentation of nursing interventions.
  • Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistants, acting as a mentor to designated staff.
  • Be able to act as ward co-ordinator in the absence of senior staff, ensuring the safe and timely throughput of patients, liaising closely with admission staff, medical staff, and other wards.
Requirements
  • Nursing Degree or Diploma with NMC registration.
  • Experience or interest in caring for Oncology/Palliative care patients, with altered airway experience and administration of chemotherapy (IV).
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and teamwork, with the ability to deliver high standards of nursing care.
  • Basic computer literacy and understanding of the need for evidence-based practice.
  • Clinical skills including venepuncture/cannulation/IV administration, altered airway care, and leadership.
