Mechanical Design Engineer with Industrial Design Expertise

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer with industrial design experience to join our Projects and Mechanical Engineering (PME) group. As part of our team, you will contribute to the design and development of mechanical systems and components for high-profile scientific projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Concept design of components, assemblies, and sub-systems
  • Detailed design of components and production of engineering drawings to BS:8888
  • Completion of finite element analyses (Mechanical/ANSYS)
  • Completion of survey work, including use of laser tracker and spatial analyser
  • Supporting mechanical work, such as fluid flow calculations and magnet design
  • Production of posters, papers, and presentations
  • Working within ISO9001:2015 quality system incorporating continuous improvement
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025
  • Interest in science and/or engineering
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to understand and explain technical concepts effectively
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office
  • Good written communication skills
