Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic team. Reporting directly to the VP Legal, this role is pivotal in supporting the development of essential media, sponsorship, and commercial projects across our organization. This newly established position offers substantial opportunities for professional growth and the chance to take ownership of critical areas within our business.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for:
- Overseeing the contractual processes for sales and renewals concerning media and sponsorship partnerships;
- Acting as the primary contact for inquiries related to media rights and sponsorship agreements;
- Managing key media initiatives, including production service contracts and digital media agreements;
- Facilitating contractual processes for merchandise and licensing collaborations;
- Engaging in E-Sports and gaming projects;
- Administering the management of our trademark portfolio in collaboration with external legal counsel;
- Developing marketing, communications, and digital service agreements;
- Contributing to ESG initiatives, such as community engagement programs.
Collaboration and Autonomy:
While the role will involve supporting the VP Legal on complex matters, there will be ample opportunities for independent decision-making once acclimated to the position. Depending on experience, the role may also include mentoring junior legal staff.
Required Qualifications:
- A 2:1 degree in law or equivalent qualification;
- A minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience as a lawyer in England;
- Experience in both private practice and commercial in-house settings;
- Proficiency in drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, including sponsorship and media rights contracts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience within a sports rights holder or sporting team environment;
- Expertise in drafting agreements related to media production and technical services;
- Experience in managing external legal counsel and budgets;
- Experience in overseeing junior legal staff;
- Familiarity with managing intellectual property trademark portfolios.
