About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Support Worker to join our team at Victoria House, a leading national charity providing innovative care, rehabilitation, and support solutions for people with profound physical impairments and acquired brain injury.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality support to our service users, ensuring their individual needs are met and they lead a full and valued life.
  • Contribute to creating a homely environment, promoting maximum involvement in activities and decision-making.
  • Enable service users to participate in and contribute to the local community.
Main Duties
  1. Establish and maintain professional relationships with service users, contributing to a homely and pleasant living environment.
  2. Conduct yourself in a professional manner, acting as a role model to colleagues and service users, and contributing to the delivery of quality services.
  3. Facilitate daily routines, including personal care, promoting high standards of personal hygiene.
  4. Participate in developing service user support plans, risk assessments, and programs, and complete written records as necessary.
  5. Implement individual support plans, highlighting any issues or concerns to the Team Leader to ensure quality services are delivered.
  6. Participate in individual service user review meetings and support plans within boundaries set by senior colleagues.
  7. Enable service users to look after and clean their own rooms, organize their personal possessions, clothing, and other personal effects.
  8. Assist in cleaning and maintaining all rooms, fixtures, and fittings, maintaining a safe environment for service users and staff.
  9. Enable service users to access and utilize resources and activities available within their local and wider communities.
  10. Accompany service users as required, ensuring they get to and from activities safely and promptly.
  11. Act as a Keyworker for designated service users, liaising closely with relevant staff regarding individual programs to ensure quality services are delivered.
  12. Report any enquiries, issues, or concerns to the line manager, providing information to enable them to take appropriate action.
  13. Liaise in a professional manner with service users' family members, friends, advocates, and other professionals as required.
  14. Ensure all relevant documentation is completed accurately and effectively in a timely manner.
  15. Attend and contribute to annual reviews, multi-disciplinary meetings, and Person-Centred Planning meetings, and all other relevant meetings as required.
  16. Contribute to daily handovers between shifts, ensuring effective communication between staff, including all communication documentation.
  17. Act as a shift leader as required at the location.
  18. Support and administer medication following relevant training in line with the support plan and individual guidelines.
  19. Support and facilitate financial transactions for service users and the Trust in line with the individual support plan and company policy and procedures.
  20. Support service users' health and wellbeing, including attending appointments, hospital admissions, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
  21. Work in accordance with the rota system, including working unsociable hours at weekends and some bank holidays. Sleep-in duties may be required at specific locations.
  22. Undertake any reasonable travelling requirements to fulfill the tasks and responsibilities of the role.
  23. Support service users, if requested, on holidays away from the location.
  24. Undertake any other duties as may from time to time be specified by the Trust that is within the level and responsibility appropriate to the grade of post.
Personal Development, Supervision, and Training
  • Ensure all essential and core training is undertaken and remains current, in line with requirements of the role.
  • Participate in regular support and supervision from line management.
  • Support service users who may present challenging behavior and complex needs, implementing approved strategies in accordance with relevant programs.
  • Be aware of all service user support plans and program changes to assist self and colleagues in supporting service users as required.
  • Continuously develop professional knowledge and expertise, attending and participating in learning and development events, meetings, conferences, and workshops as requested/approved by line management.
  • Attend and participate in regular team and other meetings, both internal and external.
  • May be required to carry out training in addition to this substantive post.

  • Be familiar and comply with written policies, procedures, and guidelines for good practice, issued by Brainkind.
  • Ensure the Health & Safety policy and procedures are adhered to at all times.
