We are seeking a dedicated Satellite Integration Mechanical Specialist to provide comprehensive engineering support in the assembly, integration, and testing of satellite systems and payloads.
This role involves assisting in the assembly of critical hardware components, including electronic units, solar arrays, and structural panels, as well as supporting environmental testing procedures at our facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Project Preparation Phase
- Assist in the customization phase from project initiation.
- Participate in Digital Mock-Up (DMU) sessions to ensure manufacturability.
- Contribute to the development of essential documentation for production, including work instructions and procedures.
- Lead the installation of satellite components and manage integration workflows.
- Support the definition and procurement of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) for satellite operations.
- Collaborate with the Process Owner team to fulfill their responsibilities.
- Provide support to the AIT Lead Engineering team during peak workload periods.
- Assist process owners with issue resolution and operational tasks.
- Oversee installation activities on satellite systems.
- Conduct quality reviews and participate in PFMEA and Root Cause Analysis.
- Help create rework instructions based on project needs and identify necessary parts and tools.
- Design and develop tooling and build aids for assembly tasks.
- Provide support to Research and Development initiatives.
- Create and maintain training modules.
- Ensure that our operational processes are standardized, optimized, and up-to-date.
Drive the creation of new processes, implement improvements, and monitor adherence to established procedures in operations.
Required Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and relevant experience.
- Proficient in writing procedures and managing process controls.
- Practical, proactive, and quality-focused with a keen attention to detail.
- Experience in producing high-quality documentation (test specifications, plans, procedures).
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage changing priorities across multiple projects.
- Excellent problem-solving skills in technical, logistical, and organizational contexts.
- Effective planning abilities and process knowledge (experience with MRP systems is a plus).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Understanding of satellite integration processes and project phases.
- Experience with satellite appendage installation (solar arrays, antennas, deployable systems).
- In-depth knowledge of complex mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing techniques, including 5S and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience in conducting environmental tests (vibration, acoustic, thermal) at various levels.
- Knowledge of handling and installing thermal hardware.
- Expertise in the mechanical integration of electronic units and subsystems.
- Prior experience with payload assembly is highly advantageous.
