Position Overview

This role is for a permanent Band 6 musculoskeletal rehabilitation specialist. You will be tasked with overseeing junior staff members and students during their training periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct physiotherapy evaluations and interventions, creating tailored therapeutic programs for a specialized patient group. This may include individuals with both physical and psychological challenges, some of whom may present complex cases. Support from team leaders, clinical specialists, or advanced practitioners will be available.
  • Ensure a high standard of care for each patient by collaborating with patients, families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and other professionals, often handling sensitive information regarding diagnoses and treatment outcomes.
  • Supervise, instruct, and evaluate peers, physiotherapists, assistants, technical instructors, students, and other members of the multidisciplinary or multi-agency teams.
  • Train and guide patients, families, or caregivers, as well as staff from other disciplines, in executing care plans developed by the therapist.
  • Assist and support the Clinical Team Leader in the daily management of the designated team as needed.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is preferred for this position; however, applications from both Welsh and English speakers are welcome.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Physiotherapy, demonstrated through a detailed personal development portfolio.
  • Completion of postgraduate training courses

Desirable:

  • Membership in relevant professional postgraduate training organizations
  • Membership in relevant special or clinical interest groups
  • Completion of a clinical educators course
  • Bronze IQT or equivalent

Experience

Essential:

  • Significant post-registration experience
  • Evidence of core rotations
  • Experience working in an NHS environment as a physiotherapist and in multidisciplinary or multi-agency settings where applicable

Desirable:

  • Experience contributing to Clinical Network Groups or working parties
  • Experience in the relevant specialty

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of complex conditions
  • Advanced understanding of anatomy and physiology related to complex pathologies
  • Good working knowledge of clinical governance, including quality, audit, and risk management
  • Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
  • Awareness of the need for statistical data collection and experience in its application
  • Broad understanding of BCUHB policies and procedures
  • Disability awareness

  • Physically fit to comply with the health board's Manual Handling Guidelines
  • Able to maintain intense concentration throughout the working day
  • Capable of meeting the demands of a 7-day job planning and delivery schedule
  • Able to function in a high-pressure and unpredictable environment
  • Capable of performing moderate to intense physical activities throughout the day
  • Able to meet the travel requirements of the position
