Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire

Contract Type: Long Term

Leader Education is recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to work in specialist SEND schools based in Wakefield. These schools cater to children and young people aged 4-19 with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Speech and Language Needs, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with SEND on a 1:1 or group basis, either in a classroom or care setting.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to provide a nurturing and patient approach to supporting students with diverse and complex needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to students, promoting their social, emotional, and mental well-being.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to promote inclusion and accessibility in the school environment.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly those with Autism, PMLD, or SEMH needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
  • Adaptability and the ability to respond effectively to the individual needs of students.
