Job Title: National Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced National Officer to join our team at the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS). As a National Officer, you will play a key role in contributing to the strategic development of our union's policy objectives and providing leadership in delivering our bargaining, organising, campaigning, equality, learning, and digital objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the union's policy objectives, including the PCS planning process.
  • Provide leadership in delivering the union's bargaining, organising, campaigning, equality, learning, and digital objectives, with direct involvement in more complex or strategic areas.
  • Manage people and resources in allocated areas, ensuring that the work of the team is in line with the wider objectives of the union.
  • Represent the PCS at external meetings, providing advice and guidance to relevant committees.
  • Monitor and report on issues and initiatives as requested, providing input into budgetary processes, including bid preparation, monitoring, and control.
Requirements:
  • Experience of team leadership, people management, and development.
  • Understanding of the political processes in the UK and the role and work of trade unions.
  • Sound knowledge of employment rights, equality legislation, discrimination law, and working practices.
  • Proven track record in bargaining, organising, and campaigning.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how digitalisation, IT, and digital technology impact the future of the union.
