About the Role

Lorien, a leading public sector client, is seeking a highly skilled Design Standards Manager to join their team on a 6-month contract. As a Design Standards Manager, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining the estate's design standards, ensuring that they are up-to-date and reflect the latest best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy and Framework Management
    • Develop and implement strategic plans to support the estate's business needs.
    • Manage frameworks and contracts for design and professional services.
    • Direct design commissions and oversee the management of consultants.
  • Design Standards
    • Develop and maintain the estate's design standards, including specialist systems and specifications.
    • Collaborate with other estate specialists to ensure standards are up-to-date and reflect best practices.
    • Disseminate information on design standards and initiate the development of new standards as required.
  • Project Assistance
    • Provide design support to project sponsors and managers throughout the design stages.
    • Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and tender/proposal evaluation.
    • Provide ongoing design assistance throughout construction and handover stages.
  • Improvement and Specialist Knowledge
    • Coordinate post-occupancy and post-completion reviews to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
    • Develop specialist knowledge of the estate and Scottish Government strategies and policies.
    • Develop contacts with other government organizations and initiate trials of new products.

Requirements

  • Degree qualification in a building or engineering discipline or HND in a construction-related discipline.
  • Essential skills include strategy, framework and contract management, design standards, project assistance, and improvement.
