As a key member of the Planning & Projects department, the Senior Planner will report to the Planning Manager/Planning Director and play a vital role in securing local planning permissions and promoting significant strategic sites through the Local Plan process and planning applications.

In this capacity, you will often serve as the Lead Planner for specific sites, working closely with a Senior Project Manager/Planning Director as the Project Lead.

Your responsibilities will include developing and executing planning strategies for sites, requiring both strategic foresight and short-term planning capabilities.

Additionally, you will be expected to effectively delegate tasks, fostering the professional growth of junior planners within the team.


Key Responsibilities:


The successful candidate will be tasked with formulating and implementing the regional planning strategy while managing a team of consultants to efficiently secure qualifying planning permissions across the region.


Core Duties:
- Drafting and approving reports to support planning applications, appeals, and policy presentations.

- Assisting Planning Directors, Planning Managers, and Senior Project Managers as needed, along with addressing broader planning matters as requested by senior colleagues.

- Reviewing reports from external consultants, providing constructive feedback and final approval.
- Conducting research and analysis to aid in developing strategies for site promotion, allocation, and planning applications.

- Producing well-researched and professionally presented reports to support site promotion and planning application submissions.

- Engaging in meetings and discussions with prospective landowners and agents to identify new sites for promotion.

- Establishing planning and engagement strategies for sites and ensuring their successful implementation.
- Conducting site visits and meetings with landowners, agents, and local authority representatives.
- Effectively managing workload and adhering to deadlines through task delegation.

Qualifications:
- A degree in Planning or a related field, with eligibility for RTPI Membership.
- Extensive experience in planning, whether in a consultancy or local planning environment.
- Proven experience in negotiating and instructing Section 106 agreements.

- Familiarity with promoting sites through the Local Plan and planning application processes.

- Significant experience in preparing reports to support planning applications and site allocations in Local Plans.

- Demonstrated ability to conduct research projects that contribute to project delivery.
