Role: Systems Applications Engineer
Department: Systems Engineering and Design Capability (SE&DC)
This role is situated within the SE&DC team, which plays a pivotal role in supporting various projects through established model-based systems engineering methodologies. The team is also dedicated to refining best practices to improve efficiency and uniformity across engineering operations.
The department utilizes a comprehensive suite of systems engineering tools based on IBM's Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) framework, referred to internally as Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). While a significant portion of the toolset has transitioned to web-based applications (including DOORS Next, Engineering Workflow Manager, Engineering Test Manager, Global Configuration, etc.), SE&DC continues to support several thick client applications (such as DOORS Classic, Rhapsody, EWM Eclipse Client, Method Composer, etc.).
Ensuring a dependable, secure, and high-performing systems engineering toolset while exploring new versions with enhanced capabilities is crucial for the success of ongoing and future projects. The role necessitates collaboration with various stakeholders, including software application vendors (notably IBM), the internal Information Management (IM) team, the security division, the broader SE&DC team, and the engineering user community to maintain seamless service across the systems engineering applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Management of client software versions – including IBM's Rhapsody, EWM Eclipse Client, ELO-MEC, DOORS Classic, ELO-PUB:
- Oversee project dependencies on specific software versions.
- Facilitate the transition of projects to the latest software versions.
- Coordinate client software packaging instructions with the packaging team.
- Manage Windows 11 testing campaigns.
- Address security vulnerabilities in collaboration with IM and third-party IT contractors.
- Monitor application functionality and manage resolution processes (patches).
- Assist IM in server upgrades.
- Oversee management and maintenance of DOORS Server and Client.
- Lead ALM upgrade User Acceptance Testing (UAT) campaigns.
- Support IM with ALM token management and user monitoring.
- Provide user support for the Grid Computing Facility, including compute node administration, collaborating with IM and third parties.
- Manage and phase out legacy applications.
- Oversee management and upgrades of ALM Widgets and Add-ons.
- Manage and upgrade the ALM-PLM digital continuity adapter.
Experience with IBM's toolset (Rhapsody, DOORS Classic, IBM ELM (ALM)) is highly advantageous. Candidates should be enthusiastic about enhancing their skills in systems engineering application management as the underlying infrastructure and architectures evolve towards web-based technologies. A keen interest in exploring and leveraging emerging technologies within the systems engineering application landscape is also essential.
