About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and talented Commis Chef to join our award-winning Catering Services team at the House of Commons.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting senior chefs in the efficient and effective running of a designated kitchen. This will include:

  • Menu Preparation and Service: Assist in the preparation, production, and service of all menu items and related items.
  • Mise-en-Place: Perform any required mise-en-place as instructed by senior chefs.
  • Food Safety and Health: Operate within Food Safety, Health, and Safety regulations.
  • Culinary Skills Development: Proactively learn new culinary skills and techniques.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Culinary Qualifications: Relevant catering qualifications, such as City and Guilds 706:1&2 or NVQ level 1,2&3, or equivalent.
  • Kitchen Experience: Relevant kitchen experience in a similar position, with a sound understanding of Food Hygiene and Health and Safety practices.
  • Communication Skills: Good communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral, with the ability to build effective relationships and work successfully within a team.
  • Teamwork and Prioritization: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, often under pressure, and prioritize your workload to deliver a high-quality service.
  • Customer Service: Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to respond quickly to customer needs.
  • Culinary Knowledge: Basic awareness of current catering trends and practices.
