About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Methods Engineer to join our team at Sir Robert McAlpine. As a key member of our Methods team, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing construction methods that are practical, effective, efficient, economic, and safe.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and input to the constructability of the permanent design, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Develop and implement the structural works execution strategy, taking into account the project's specific requirements and constraints.
  • Establish a preparation schedule for Methods and Plant, ensuring that all necessary resources are available and utilized efficiently.
  • Participate in technical/price studies for different construction solutions for the structure, providing expert advice and guidance to the project team.
  • Set the execution methods (methods sequencing, operating procedures, phasing, cycles) in line with the Programme and the Quality-Safety-Environment rules, ensuring that they are safe, efficient, and effective.
  • Conduct studies regarding site installations and the lifting equipment, working closely with the lifting team to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made.
  • Determine all plant resources needed for steelwork erection, cladding installation, M&E logistical movements, and safety, ensuring that they are available and utilized efficiently.
  • Provide monitoring and inspection of manufacturers of special plant/equipment, including consultation, ordering, checking calculation notes and fabrication drawings, acceptance in factory, dummy assembly, and packaging.
  • Manage the Methods technicians/engineers and draughtsperson, providing guidance and support to ensure that they are able to perform their duties effectively.
  • Monitor studies of technical risks (Methods) of the project, identifying potential issues and developing strategies to mitigate them.
Requirements
  • Engineering Degree qualified and have a construction engineering industry-related Professional membership (e.g. ICE, IStructE, MCIOB, etc).
  • Experience of working on large construction projects (£100mil+).
  • Knowledge of the full Microsoft office suite.
  • Autocad skills to review or sketch designs preferred – but ability to pick up software with training quickly.
  • Coordination and negotiation skills.
  • Technical knowledge and commercially minded.
  • Methodical, have authority, tenacious, and have a sense of responsibility.
