Head of Building and Structural Engineering

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Building and Structural Engineering to join our team at Bircham Wyatt Recruitment. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of our projects, ensuring that our designs are accurate, buildable, and meet the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical decision-making process for our projects, ensuring that our designs are accurate, complete, and meet the required quality standards.
  • Develop and implement project-specific dimensional control strategies to achieve project-specific KPIs.
  • Proactively support the interpretation of as-built surveys and installations, ensuring that they are checked prior to construction of follow-on activities.
  • Manage and produce quality assurance information, ensuring alignment to quality assurance standards and consistency.
  • Provide performance management of direct and indirect reports, providing technical and career development and coaching.
  • Accountability for the technical aspects of a project, including driving innovations and technical developments.

Requirements:

  • Overall responsibility for the technical/structural aspects of the project.
  • Ability to check design output to ensure that information is clear, complete, achievable, buildable, conforms to preferred methods, and is available to enable efficient procurement and construction of the works.
  • Responsible for ensuring that company and project quality requirements and procedures are implemented.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with project teams and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Experience:

  • Leading structural value engineering assessments.
  • Ensuring that BIM is utilised to support technical management of the project.
  • Leading/input to project innovations and technical developments.
  • Developing or inputting to the development of proposals to reduce the carbon impact of the project.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering engineering roles/activities on projects of a complexity commensurate with this role.
