Brighton, Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom Govia Thameslink Railway Full time

About Govia Thameslink Railway

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) is committed to delivering exceptional journeys for a sustainable future. As the UK's largest Train Operating Company, GTR strives to ensure customer satisfaction and reliable service. Our Engineering team of approximately 1300 individuals plays a crucial role in maintaining our trains, ensuring their safety and operational efficiency.

Brighton Depot: A Hub of Rail Excellence

Brighton Depot is responsible for the routine maintenance and replacement of essential line-side components (wheelsets, traction motors, etc.) for a shared fleet of class 377s and 387s used by Southern and Gatwick Express. Brighton boasts an established, high-performing team and robust working practices. However, there's always room for innovation and improvement.

Your Role: Leading the Way in Rail Engineering

As the Depot Manager, you will provide leadership to a team of approximately 160 individuals, ensuring the safe, cost-effective, and efficient operation of the Depot. Your accountability extends to delivering a safe, reliable, and compliant railway, meeting Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Quality/Availability targets.

A Visionary Leader with a Safety-First Mindset

We seek a visionary leader who can inspire their team, empower them to achieve new heights, and foster a sense of pride in their work. You will champion a safety-first culture where safety concerns are identified, addressed, and promptly resolved across all site activities. Implement safety improvement plans to prevent recurrence.

Your Expertise: A Blend of Leadership and Engineering

  • Proven experience as a people leader, particularly in managing large teams (over 100 individuals).
  • A solid understanding of engineering maintenance practices, ideally from safety-critical industries.
  • Familiarity with general depot operations, associated safety risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Experience in fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
