Job Summary

This is a part-time role working with dietitians at Chesterfield Royal Hospital to support adults requiring nutrition and dietetic input who have had a stroke.

Main Duties of the Job

Under the supervision of a dietitian, the successful candidate will assess and advise adults who have had a stroke and will be supported to meet the required competencies within the first 6 months of being in post.

About Us

If you are currently working in an assistant role within an NHS hospital environment, have a Foundation degree (or the equivalent), and ideally some experience of working with adults who have difficulties eating and drinking after having a stroke, this might be the role for you.

The successful candidate will become part of our larger friendly, dynamic, and forward-thinking team of 27 staff made up of dietitians, a nutrition support nurse, assistant dietitian practitioners, and admin staff.

This post will require a Disclosure & Barring Service check.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical

  1. To provide a client-centred nutrition & dietetic service for adults who have had a stroke.
  2. To obtain and review information which may be of a sensitive nature from a variety of sources relating to the nutritional health of adults, which will include:
  • Anthropometric data.
  • Biochemical results.
  • Nutritional intake.
To advise, monitor, and support adults according to agreed protocols, reporting progress to supervising dietitians.To communicate complex nutritional information to adults, carers, and staff where there may be barriers to communication and understanding.To organise dietetic assessment, treatment, and support for adults who have had a stroke, including delivery of samples of oral nutritional supplements, arranging appointments or visits, and liaison with other agencies.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • A Higher Apprenticeship Level 5 / Foundation Degree / Diploma (QCF 3 / Level 4 NVQ) or the equivalent in a related subject.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a healthcare support worker role.
  • Experience of working with individuals who are malnourished.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with adults who have had a stroke.
  • Experience of working in an NHS healthcare support worker role.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • An excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Good prioritisation skills.
  • An understanding of Information Governance, Data Protection, HCPC Standards, and Safeguarding Children.
