The London Assembly plays a crucial role in overseeing the Mayor's decisions and investigating significant issues affecting the city. Comprised of 25 elected Assembly Members, the Assembly operates with the support of the Secretariat, which facilitates its activities. The Communications Team enhances the visibility of the Assembly's work through various channels including press, social media, and events.
About the Role:
This position offers a unique opportunity to serve as the Research and Policy Manager for the Conservative Members of the London Assembly. The role focuses on delivering research and policy assistance to the Members of the Group, alongside managing the associated staffing team. Collaborating closely with the Head of Office, you will play a vital role in supporting Assembly Members in their duties and ensuring accountability of the Mayor of London. Your responsibilities will include providing research, policy briefings, reports, and strategic advice, as well as developing and executing comprehensive outreach and communication strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily management and leadership of Senior Researchers within the team, ensuring effective workflow and output.
- Take charge of the production, publication, and related activities of reports for elected Members, aligning with their priorities in key policy areas.
- Formulate and implement proactive outreach and communication strategies for assigned Assembly Members, coordinating closely with communications and research colleagues.
- Guarantee that elected Members receive exemplary research services and policy support, engaging with relevant external entities across public, private, and voluntary sectors to foster a continuous exchange of ideas.
- Serve as a key point of contact for GLA officers regarding London Assembly scrutiny activities related to Group Members, ensuring effective communication and maximizing Members' influence.
- Assist the Head of Office in leading the broader team, providing problem-solving capabilities and ensuring delivery capacity.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
To qualify for this role, candidates must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
- Extensive experience in a similar capacity within a political or high-profile environment, adept at resolving complex issues and liaising with external bodies.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a team, ensuring the successful implementation of policies and strategies.
- Capability to produce clear and concise reports and research on intricate issues for diverse audiences, presenting information effectively for Assembly Members' use.
- Demonstrated experience in policy briefing within a political or public sector organization, showcasing effective research skills and the ability to quickly assimilate information from various sources.
- A comprehensive understanding of current policy issues impacting London, along with knowledge of the legislative framework governing the GLA.
