Job Title: Maternity Bereavement Support Worker

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Maternity Bereavement Support Worker to join our Bereavement Team on a fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will be based at either Worthing or St. Richard's Hospitals, with regular cross-site working between the two sites.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and organizational skills, which will have been developed through previous work experience. They will provide a professional, sensitive, and compassionate service, dealing with bereaved relatives and navigating distressing and emotive situations.

The role requires close collaboration with clinical and non-clinical staff, including the Registrar, chaplaincy service, Coroner's office, Medical Examiner, and funeral directors. Advanced IT and literacy skills, as well as experience with various IT applications, are essential.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. To work alongside Bereavement Midwives in supporting parents upon diagnosis of a baby's death, providing ongoing support while in hospital and at home.
  2. Assist Bereavement Midwives and colleagues in delivering a caring and effective patient-focused service, aligning with the Trust's aims, objectives, and standards.
  3. Under guidance, ensure sensitive and appropriate care is provided to meet individuals' needs, respecting personal dignity and beliefs.
  4. Ensure information is handled and exchanged with care, accuracy, and sensitivity, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
  5. Under the guidance of Bereavement Midwives, assist with coordinating and delivering all aspects of the Bereavement Service for families experiencing late miscarriage, Medical Termination of Pregnancy, stillbirth, and Neonatal death.
  6. Undertake Maternity Support Worker role as required to support service needs, including assisting with maintaining a safe care environment, preparing and clearing rooms and equipment, and completing clinical observations where necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Complete administrative tasks for Bereavement lead midwives.
  2. Have an awareness of audits undertaken by Bereavement Midwives and participate as required.
  3. Record information as directed onto the MBRRACE database.
  4. Play an active role in PMRT reviews of cases as required.
  5. Support families through bereavement and the grief process.
Person Specification:
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working as an MCA/MSW.
  • Additional training to diploma level equivalent or equivalent through relevant short courses/English language and math's GCSE A-C, Level 4-9/Care Certificate.
  • Understanding of the effect and impact of loss, change, death, grief, and bereavement on individuals and families.
  • Bereavement Training.
  • Previous experience in bereavement services.
