Job Summary

This role is designed for a competent professional to work towards proficiency in the implant and follow-up of cardiac devices, while utilizing their expertise to maintain high standards of care and contribute to the development of the cardiac physiology team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform, interpret, and report a range of investigations undertaken indirectly for or directly with patients within a range of care settings in invasive procedures and arrhythmia management.
  • Lead Physiologist for ETT, Tilt, and CSM testing.
  • Assist with pacing clinics and perform brady PPM implantation with indirect supervision.
  • Provide independent analysis of Holter recordings.
  • Inform the Cardiologist urgently when a serious condition is diagnosed.
  • Be competent in basic Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation technique and proficient in Intermediate Life Support.
  • Initiate treatment and support Medical Staff during cardiac Resuscitation.
Education and Training
  • Work within the guidelines set out by the clinic protocols.
  • Working towards undertaking of BHRS/IBHRE.
  • Be up to date with mandatory training (statutory and directorate specific).
  • Assist in the facilitation of a learning environment, which is conducive to the acquisition of further knowledge and skills.
  • Under the guidance of the Invasive Cardiology Manager, be able to reflect on one's own practice, and identify training and development needs in line with the IPR policy.
  • Be aware of the trust's policies and procedures and ensure that these are carried out.
Communication and Teamwork
  • Record patients in a database, participate in clinical audit to improve quality of service.
  • Use specialist computer software such as Spacelabs, Novacor, Fysicon, and other software such as excel and word.
  • Establish good working relationships with the entire multi-disciplinary team and act as a role model in order to instigate the best quality patient care.
  • Communicate with clarity and sensitivity to a broad range of patient groups (children, adolescents, adults, the elderly) showing empathy and emotional support when required.
Management and Leadership
  • Promote a learning environment in the department by supervising students, nurses, and junior doctors in routine tests.
  • Conduct formal and informal training sessions for physiologists, healthcare scientist assistants, and other healthcare practitioners.
  • Report equipment and environmental problems to the Cardiac Physiology Lead.
  • Assist with the process of adequately stocking the department; ensuring orders of supplies and stock are made in line with trust processes.
  • Assist with research studies, audits, and quality initiatives as appropriate.
  • Assist with departmental administration, including but not limited to booking appointments, writing GP and consultant letters, and responding to patient queries.
Professional Development
  • Work, as appropriate, with the Cardiac Physiology Lead, Heart Failure team, and other specialist nurses to ensure the highest quality of care to patients with CHD and heart failure.
  • Implement research-based practice.
  • Maintain accurate and legible patient records and prepare reports as required.
  • Be responsible for maintaining high standards of care and be an effective role model.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that reports and results processed by the post holder are recorded/stored safely and accurately.
  • Take necessary actions to sustain and improve own knowledge and professional competence.
Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience in a cardiac environment. Experience with non-invasive Cardiology testing.
  • Experience with invasive Cardiology procedures; PCI, Pacemaker implant, and follow-up.

Education, Training, and Qualifications

  • Holds BSc in Cardiac Physiology or equivalent education, training, or experience.
  • RCCP or HCPC registration.
