Scientific/Technical Role Perform, interpret and report a range of investigations undertaken indirectly for or directly with patients within a range of care settings in invasive procedures and arrhythmia management. Perform as lead Physiologist for ETT, Tilt and CSM testing. Assist with pacing clinics and perform brady PPM implantation with in direct supervision. Provide independent analysis of Holter recordings.

Inform the Cardiologist urgently when a serious condition is diagnosed. To be competent in basic Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation technique and following appropriate training be proficient in Intermediate Life Support. Initiate treatment and support Medical Staff during cardiac Resuscitation. Educational The post holder must work within the guidelines set out by the clinic protocols.

Working towards undertaking of BHRS/IBHRE To be up to date with mandatory training (statutory and directorate specific). Will assist in the facilitation of a learning environment, which is conducive to the acquisition of further knowledge and skills. Under the guidance of the Invasive Cardiology Manager be able to reflect on one's own practice, and identify training and development needs in line with the IPR policy. The post holder must be able at all times to demonstrate an awareness of changing trends and practices in Cardiology.

To uphold and maintain information security in line with the Northampton General Hospital Trust policy and procedure. Communication To record the patients in a database, participate in clinical audit to improve quality of service. Use of specialist computer software such as Spacelabs, Novacor, Fysicon, and other software such as excel and word. To establish good working relationships with the entire multi-disciplinary team and act as a role model in order to instigate the best quality patient care.

To communicate with clarity and sensitivity to a broad range of patient groups (children, adolescents, adults, the elderly) showing empathy and emotional support when required (e.g. terminal stages of illness, following traumatic event clinical event) The post holder will support the individual patient (and family members) and provide explanation of what investigations are to be performed and the reasons. To provide clear and concise written documentation as per Trust guidance Management Promote a learning environment in the department by supervising students, nurses and junior doctors in routine tests. To conduct formal and informal training sessions for physiologists, healthcare scientist assistants and other healthcare practitioners.

To report equipment and environmental problems to the Cardiac Physiology Lead. Assist with the process of adequately stocking the department; ensuring orders of supplies and stock are made in line with trust processes. To assist with research studies, audits and quality initiatives as appropriate. To assist with departmental administration, including but not limited to booking appointments, writing GP and consultant letters and responding to patient queries.

To attend meetings as directed and feedback information as appropriate To assist with the process of formulating new policies and procedures relating to service provision and comply with Trust Policies and Procedures Help to create and maintain positive working relationship within the team and other departments. Ensure the promotion of safety, well-being and interests of the patients, staff and visitors. Be aware of the trust's policies and procedures and ensure that these are carried out. The post holder is to participate fully in quality assurance initiatives with particular emphasis on 'Customer first approach'.

Be aware of the Trusts disciplinary and grievance procedures. To uphold and maintain information security in line with the Northampton general hospital policy and procedure Professional To work, as appropriate, with the Cardiac Physiology Lead, Heart Failure team and other specialist nurses to ensure the highest quality of care to patients with CHD and heart failure. To implement research based practice. To maintain accurate and legible patient records and prepare reports as required.

To be responsible for maintaining high standards of care and to be an effective role model. Be responsible for ensuring that reports and results processed by post holder are recorded/stored safely and accurately. To take necessary actions to sustain and improve own knowledge and professional competence. Participate in Clinical Governance activities and wherever possible ensure practice is research based.

Provide leadership to junior staff within the Cardiology Department. Support and facilitate members of the multidisciplinary team with their roles within the Department. To maintain communication with all groups of staff within the Cardiology Department to ensure dissemination of information, and maintain effective links with all other disciplines, wards and departments in the Trust Promote ideas and suggestions
