Job Title: Productive Workshop Chargehand

This is a senior role for a skilled Technician looking to take their career to the next level. As a Productive Workshop Chargehand, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activity of a busy workshop, ensuring that jobs are allocated efficiently and that vehicles are maintained to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the productivity and efficiency of the workshop
  • Allocate jobs to Vehicle Engineers via a card system
  • Work on high-spec municipal vehicles, requiring current mechanical experience
  • Liaise with the Parts Department to ensure correct equipment is used
  • Ensure work is carried out to specifications and within time frames
  • Manage a team of skilled Fitters, guiding them in their work on Diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles
  • Responsible for routine and preventative maintenance, MOT preparation, and scheduled servicing
  • Correct running defects, perform chassis and fabrication work, and inspect and correct electrical and wiring issues
Requirements:
  • Fully qualified (City & Guilds), NVQ, or equivalent
  • Experience in a similar role within a HGV or Council Fleet workshop environment
  • Good commercial vehicle knowledge from a technical perspective
  • Excellent people skills, with ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, remaining calm and composed
  • Proficient in vehicle transaction systems and IT skills
