Person Specification

Essential

  • Biomedical Sciences Degree or equivalent.
  • Must have HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.

Desirable

  • Masters degree in medical microbiology/molecular microbiology.

Experience

Essential

  • Microbiology experience within a working environment.

Desirable

  • Mycology experience.
  • Experience of a variety of molecular techniques.
  • Familiar with equipment and procedures in use in the MRCM.
  • Experience of laboratory computer systems.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to perform complex manual tests with a high degree of accuracy and precision.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Committed to Continual Professional Development and regularly updates knowledge.
  • Understands and applies principles of internal quality assurance and control.
  • Knowledge of methods and instrumentation.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of ISO 15189 Standard.
  • Good knowledge of medical mycology.
  • Some understanding of recent developments relevant to mycological testing.
