Job Title: Senior Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology IT Team Lead

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Microbiology IT team as a team lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the ongoing changes related to our newly implemented network LIMS, Clinisys WinPath Enterprise.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Manage and prioritize changes to the LIMS, ensuring adherence to local governance procedures.
  • Lead on all aspects of quality management in a section of the laboratory, including implementation of new methods.
  • Work with and lead on verification and implementation projects for new tests and equipment within your section, including new LIMS.
  • Supervise and train inexperienced BMS, trainee BMS, or MLA staff and assist in training plans.
  • Communicate and liaise with other IT and laboratory leads within UHS Pathology and Southern Counties pathology regarding Change control processes related to the LIMS.

  • Qualifications, knowledge and experience:
    • HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (BSc) or other HCPC approved degree/top-ups
    • HCPC registered
    • Evidence of current CPD activities
    • MSc or equivalent level of knowledge in relevant discipline
    • Specialist portfolio in relevant discipline or experience demonstrating an equivalent level of knowledge/experience relevant to the role
    • Experience of working at band 6 level (or equivalent) to include the ability to provide supervision/leadership and troubleshoot non-routine issues as they arise
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in a large acute hospital laboratory
    • IT competency (hospital IT systems, outlook, Microsoft)
