Shetland, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

Position: Oncology Nurse Specialist

Employment Type: Full-time, up to 37.0 hours per week

Salary: Band 6 - £37,831 - £46,100 per annum

Additional Benefits: Distant Islands Allowance of £2,256 per annum

Development Opportunity: Band 5 position considered, with a salary range of £30,229 - £37,664 during training

Relocation Support: Up to £8,000 available

An exceptional opportunity has emerged to become a part of the NHS Scotland Macmillan Nursing Team. The Oncology Nurse Specialist will collaborate with fellow team members to provide the Nurse Led Chemotherapy Service. The role encompasses delivering comprehensive care for patients with cancer, spanning from initial diagnosis through to palliative and end-of-life care.

The Band 6 role necessitates the ability to support and administer treatment to patients throughout their cancer journey, while also collaborating with other professionals within the multidisciplinary team. Candidates with advanced practice certifications are encouraged to apply. Training in the administration of SACT chemotherapy regimens is a prerequisite.

For those interested in the Band 5 development role, extensive training will be required to obtain the necessary Post Graduate Certificates for the Clinical Nurse Specialist position. This includes SACT chemotherapy training, Non-medical Prescribing, and Clinical Assessment for Advanced Practitioners. Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal development. The Band 5 post holder will assist in the daily operations of the chemotherapy unit and will receive mentorship from Clinical Nurse Specialists to progress to the Band 6 role. This position offers the chance to work closely with the Oncology & Palliative nursing team in delivering high-quality care across NHS Scotland.

While primarily hospital-based, the role will involve visiting patients at home, thus a Current Full Driving Licence is essential.
