Position Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for a Psychological Support Assistant to join our dedicated team within the Community Adolescent Forensic Mental Health sector at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.

This role focuses on providing forensic mental health consultation, assessment, and therapeutic interventions to adolescents under 18 years who exhibit high-risk behaviors.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated individual to assist in delivering adolescent forensic mental health services, contributing to service development, and ensuring the provision of high-quality, accessible care.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire to support young individuals and demonstrate flexibility in adapting to the evolving needs of the service and its clients.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Conducting audits and evaluations of service effectiveness
  • Collecting and analyzing relevant data
  • Providing indirect support to patients
  • Assisting in clinical formulation and consultation processes
  • Supporting assessment and intervention strategies with young clients

Given the nature of this position, it is essential that candidates can travel independently and have access to a suitable vehicle for work-related purposes. Adjustments can be made in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 if necessary.

The successful Psychological Support Assistant will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, maintaining clinical audits, supporting professional consultations, engaging in direct clinical work, and assisting in the research and evaluation of services under the guidance of qualified professionals.

Candidates should demonstrate their ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and have experience in mental health settings. Experience with adolescents and/or in forensic environments is preferred.

Applicants must possess a 2:1 or higher BPS accredited degree (or equivalent) that qualifies them for BPS membership (Graduate Basis for Registration, GBR). Documentation of this requirement must be included in the application.
