Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Water Consulting team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering technical outputs, collaborating with other disciplines, and providing engineering input to design outputs.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver mechanical design outputs, including technical specifications, sizing and designing pumping systems and aeration systems, schedules, and reports.
- Collaborate with other disciplines, such as General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
- Provide engineering input to design outputs, including technical presentations to clients and other design engineers.
- Assess existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver mechanical design solutions.
- Work on a wide variety of projects across a variety of major long-term frameworks with water companies across the UK.
- Collaborate with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and delivery of projects.
- Contribute to the development of the team by acting as a mentor or guide to junior members.
- A good technical understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Water industry experience will be a significant advantage.
- At least an awareness and preferably some proficiency in:
- The design of pumping systems and pump selection.
- The use of P&IDs to create equipment, valve, and pipe schedules.
- The production of specifications.
- Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations and designing for safety.
- Variety of methods of contract procurement, ideally including the ECC (NEC) forms of contract.
- Managing your work to time, cost, and quality criteria.
- Supporting junior staff in their technical development.
- The ability to travel and visit operational and construction sites as required, to act in a safe manner, and to asset survey, inspect, and witness test mechanical equipment and installations.
