This position is available for remote work within the UK, with occasional travel required to the nearest UNiDAYS campus.

Role Overview

As an integral member of our Platform team, this position offers a unique chance to contribute to the advancement of platform strategy, cloud automation, and developer experience at UNiDAYS.

You will collaborate closely with our software engineering teams to identify areas for enhancement that will lead to improved developer experiences and increased productivity. Through a hands-on approach, you will pinpoint and implement enhancements in our systems' performance, reliability, scalability, security, and efficiency.

The platform team is dedicated to eliminating obstacles for other teams, enabling them to deliver results more swiftly through shared tools. We also advocate for operational excellence across the organization, emphasizing automation and self-service capabilities.

We seek a commercially-focused Platform Engineer who can effectively bridge the gap between user requirements and business objectives. You should possess the capability to construct resilient, cost-effective solutions while staying abreast of evolving technological trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and deploy cloud services using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Collaborate with software engineers to understand how platform engineers can add value and assist with their cloud requirements.
  • Explore new technologies and drive enhancements across our platform, shared tools, modules, and packages.
  • Aim to create new or enhance existing self-service capabilities for software teams.
  • Monitor platform performance and identify areas for improvement with a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) mindset focusing on Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Continuously define, refine, implement, and document best practices.
  • Participate in on-call duties one week per month.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and knowledge sharing with fellow engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive cloud knowledge with hands-on experience in a variety of AWS cloud services.
  • Strong background in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with CloudFormation and Terraform preferred, along with application deployment strategies and cloud architectural patterns.
  • Experience with ECS clusters across multiple environments.
  • Familiarity with security, networking, CDN, load balancing, and storage solutions.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD practices across various environments.
  • Development experience with proficiency in core languages such as C#, Python, and TypeScript.
  • AWS/Terraform certification is advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in database administration (MSSQL, RDS, DynamoDB, Neptune, Redshift).
  • Background in mentoring, training, or knowledge sharing with other engineers.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies.
  • Operational experience in incident resolution and management.
