About the Role

Our financial client is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to support and improve their critical database infrastructure. You will play a key role in both project-based tasks and BAU support, ensuring the smooth operation, security, and efficiency of their database systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, set up, and test new databases and data handling systems.
  • Update and amend existing databases to meet evolving business needs.
  • Monitor database performance, security, and integrity.
  • Develop complex queries to facilitate data extraction for business functions.
  • Provide basic support for IT infrastructure, including Unix, VMWare, Active Directory, and DNS environments.
Requirements
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database software/web applications.
  • Strong experience in database configuration, builds, and administration.
  • Expertise in stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views.
  • Solid understanding of IT hardware and software installation.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with Oracle, RDBMS (e.g., MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
  • Basic knowledge of Unix, Linux, VMWare, Active Directory, and DNS.
  • Familiarity with Citrix, AIX, Storage Area Networks (SAN), and version control systems like Git.
  • Understanding of database performance tuning and optimisation techniques.
  • Experience with database backups, recovery processes, and automation tools.
