Assistant Professor of Counselor Education Position

The Department of Secondary Education and School Leadership at Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Counselor Education position. We seek candidates with expertise in clinical mental health and/or school counseling, and a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service.
Responsibilities- Teach graduate courses in school and mental health counseling concentrations of the Master of Arts in Urban Education degree.
- Contribute to developing curricula in counseling to meet CACREP standards.
- Conduct scholarly research, publish in respected refereed scholarly journals, and participate in other scholarly activities to secure external funding.
- Advise and mentor graduate students, hold office hours, engage in program development, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning.
- Provide support for program coordination and administration, and serve on Departmental, School, and University committees.
- A Counselor Education degree from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program.
- Independently licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or eligible for licensure in Virginia by endorsement.
- Meet the CACREP standards for core faculty at the university.
- Experience in clinical mental health and/or school counseling.
- School counseling licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligibility for reciprocity.
- A record of published research in the field of mental health or counselor education.
- Active involvement in professional associations and/or partnerships in the field.
- An approved clinical supervisor certification or eligibility to provide supervision for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Evidence of an established or developing research agenda that informs the counseling field.
