About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Water Treatment Operator to join our team at South West Water. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our wastewater treatment works and sewage pumping stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out on-site monitoring of treated wastewater and associated plant to ensure effective site operation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Respond effectively to site conditions and instrument monitoring information to ensure compliance and protect the environment.
  • Store and handle chemicals in accordance with COSHH, QMS Procedures, and relevant Health and Safety standards.
  • Carry out first-line maintenance on instruments and mechanical equipment.
  • Calibrate equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Use the iSCADA control system, PCs, and other computer hardware and software to carry out the role effectively.
  • Carry out grass-cutting, weed-killing, and general maintenance to maintain site conditions in accordance with relevant procedures.
  • Provide accurate and timely feedback of activities completed.
  • Adhere to schedules, business rules, and procedures.
  • Liaise with Area Manager, Catchment Pilot, and Technical Assistants to ensure schedules are optimized.
  • Liaise with Area Manager, Energy Maintenance, and other team members to ensure site operation and asset maintenance is optimized.
  • Deal effectively with customer queries when directly approached and pass information up the management line where appropriate.
  • Regularly sample and test internal and external tanker deliveries and critical site control points on the treatment process.
Requirements
  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English, and a Science subject.
  • An NVQ 2 qualification in Waste Water operations is desirable.
  • Experience of working in a team and an understanding of the importance of teamwork.
  • Previous experience of operating and maintaining complex processes and working with modern technology.
  • Proven experience of working with computers and software packages.
