About the Role
CHEP, a leading logistics company, is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to join its European Tax team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for supporting the UK/Ireland and Europe regions in indirect tax compliance and advisory matters.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance Assurance
- Collaborate with the Controllership function to ensure accurate and timely indirect tax compliance across multiple European jurisdictions.
- Develop and maintain robust VAT filing and refund claims processes in Europe.
- Implement and maintain VAT administration, including set-up of new VAT registrations.
- Stay up-to-date with evolving indirect tax rules and regulations, and oversee necessary changes to CHEP's VAT processes and systems.
- Conduct regular reviews and tests of Brambles Europe's VAT control environment to ensure continuous improvement.
Indirect Tax Process Improvements
- Oversee the planning and future-proofing of VAT processes and software systems, working closely with Controllership to transform compliance requirements into optimized VAT processes and system set-ups.
- Evaluate opportunities for artificial intelligence and automation in VAT processes, and support the analysis and deployment of related process and system improvements.
Management of Process Documentation
- Ensure key indirect tax processes are accurately documented, including the creation and update of Indirect Tax Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Special Project Support
- Provide VAT technical analysis and support as required for ongoing and new tax projects.
VAT Audit Support
- Collaborate with the Indirect Tax Director, Europe, and the Controllership Team to manage and resolve tax enquiries, audits, and other exposures.
Business Support
Work closely with the Indirect Tax Director, Europe, to:
- Provide VAT compliance expertise across all Brambles Europe entities, including business support and advice on all indirect tax issues.
- Undertake tax reviews and research of compliance requirements for optimal indirect tax structuring.
- Ensure a proactive approach to VAT training and rules maintenance, keeping the business up-to-date with changes that impact them.
Requirements
- University Graduate Degree
- Recognised Tax/Accountancy qualification
Experience and Skills
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in indirect tax roles, ideally with managing internal indirect tax affairs of multiple European jurisdictions.
- Experience gained in Big 4/Tier A Accountancy firm or Blue-Chip in-house tax department.
- Experience of working with or providing advice on VAT set-up in a major ERP system; knowledge of SAP is desirable.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Previous experience working within or alongside a 'back office' shared service environment is desirable.
- Able to translate knowledge and understanding of UK/European VAT rules into practical business advice.
- Understanding of indirect Tax Accounting and reporting.
- Drive to take ownership and responsibility for own work and operate independently, with the ability to also demonstrate great teamwork.
- A European language such as French, German, Spanish, or Italian would be useful but is not required.
