The Government Legal Department (GLD) serves as the primary provider of legal services within the government, engaging in significant matters that often attract attention from Parliament and the media. Our responsibilities encompass:

GLD operates as a non-ministerial government department, under the sponsorship of the Attorney General. Led by the Treasury Solicitor, our Permanent Secretary, we employ nearly 3000 individuals, including over 2000 legal experts. Our offices are located in various regions, providing specialized legal services in Litigation, Employment, and Commercial Law, while advising numerous Government Departments on their policies and services.
In addition to our legal services, GLD relies on a range of essential corporate functions that ensure the department operates smoothly and efficiently. These functions include Strategy, Human Resources, Finance, Digital Services, Data and Technology, Communications, Security, Commercial Operations, and Project Management.

Role Description
We are seeking a seasoned Business Continuity Manager to lead the strategic planning of business continuity initiatives across GLD. The ideal candidate will foster strong working relationships with staff at all levels within the department and be prepared to travel to various GLD locations.
This role demands a comprehensive understanding of the government's resilience strategy, coupled with expertise in crisis management, business continuity planning, leadership, communication, and organizational execution. A flexible approach and readiness to undertake additional responsibilities to support the team, including special projects, are also desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain an effective business continuity strategy supported by relevant plans and processes.
- Provide direct assistance to the GLD Incident Management Team and the Director of Operations during incidents or disruptions.
- Ensure proper induction for new members of the Incident Management Team regarding their roles and responsibilities.
- Facilitate ongoing training for IMT members and conduct regular meetings to identify potential issues affecting GLD operations.
- Engage with all GLD business areas to identify critical functions and offer direct support to business continuity planners.
- Lead the GLD Business Continuity network, uniting planners from across the department, providing training, conducting exercises, and addressing current issues.
- Represent GLD in the X-Government Business Continuity Forum.
- Design and conduct business continuity exercises across GLD, including a simulated exercise every two years involving stakeholders from across the department.
- Report to the GLD Audit, Risk, and Assurance Committee.
- Ensure senior management is briefed on business continuity processes.
- Provide ad hoc support to the Director and the broader team on special projects.
