About the Role

Pertemps Harrow is seeking a highly skilled Senior Housing Benefits Appeals Officer to join our team. As a key member of our housing benefits team, you will be responsible for identifying, categorizing, and recovering overpayments of housing benefits.

Main Responsibilities
  • Benefits Recovery: Identify and recover overpayments of housing benefits, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Customer Support: Provide support and advice to tenants regarding their housing benefits and council tax support, ensuring excellent customer service and communication.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with external agencies, such as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Citizens Advice Bureau, to ensure tenants receive the support they need.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all benefit claims and related transactions, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Policies and Procedures: Ensure that all policies and procedures related to housing benefits are followed correctly, adhering to company standards and best practices.
  • Training and Development: Train and support junior staff members in the housing benefits team, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports on housing benefit activities and performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  • Experience: Extensive and recent experience in submitting Housing Benefit Appeals and attending/presenting hearings at tribunals.
  • Knowledge: Significant experience in Housing Benefits administration or a related field, with a strong understanding of housing legislation, including tenancy enforcement, debt recovery, and anti-social behaviour.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize a high volume of work efficiently.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and process claims accurately.
