Senior Housing Benefits Appeals Officer

Pertemps Harrow is seeking a highly skilled Senior Housing Benefits Appeals Officer to join their team. As a key member of the housing benefits team, you will be responsible for identifying and recovering overpayments of housing benefits, providing support and advice to tenants, and working closely with external agencies to ensure tenants receive the support they need.
Main Responsibilities:- Identify and recover overpayments: Utilize your expertise to identify and recover overpayments of housing benefits, ensuring that the council's financial resources are utilized efficiently.
- Provide support and advice: Offer guidance and support to tenants regarding their housing benefits and council tax support, ensuring that they understand their entitlements and obligations.
- Collaborate with external agencies: Work closely with external agencies, such as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Citizens Advice Bureau, to ensure that tenants receive the support they need.
- Maintain accurate records: Keep accurate records of all benefit claims and related transactions, ensuring that the council's records are up-to-date and compliant with relevant legislation.
- Ensure compliance: Ensure that all policies and procedures related to housing benefits are followed correctly, ensuring that the council remains compliant with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Train and support junior staff: Train and support junior staff members in the housing benefits team, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
- Prepare and present reports: Prepare and present reports on housing benefit activities and performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Extensive experience: Possess extensive and recent experience in submitting Housing Benefit Appeals and attending/presenting hearings at tribunals.
- Significant experience: Have significant experience in Housing Benefits administration or a related field, with a strong understanding of housing legislation and welfare benefits.
- Excellent communication skills: Possess excellent communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with tenants and external agencies.
- Strong analytical skills: Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and process claims accurately.
- Ability to manage priorities: Have the ability to manage and prioritize a high volume of work efficiently, ensuring that deadlines are met and tasks are completed effectively.
