As a Java Engineer, you will join one of our dedicated Engineering teams, responsible for crafting exceptional products by applying best practices in architectural and engineering principles. Your role will involve utilizing Java (8+) alongside frameworks like Spring Boot, Hibernate, and Maven to design and develop high-performance services, including websites, applications, microservices, and event-driven architectures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of large-scale, high-performance services using Java (17+) and frameworks such as Spring Boot and Maven.
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap of our products.
  • Engage with cloud and container technologies, including Kubernetes on platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Support the design and maintenance of services and internal frameworks that enhance Sainsbury's Group capabilities.
  • Participate in engineering throughout the entire product lifecycle, including decommissioning.
  • Evaluate the cost and service support implications of your engineering decisions.
About You
  • Strong expertise in programming with Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
  • Solid understanding of engineering practices, including architectural principles, unit testing, and TDD.
  • Proven experience in software design, implementation, security, cloud technologies, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD.
  • Self-motivated with a focus on continuous improvement for your team and peers.
  • Advocate for agile and lean delivery methodologies.
  • Passionate about delivering customer solutions and committed to the entire SDLC while embracing DevSecOps principles.
  • Enthusiastic about expanding your knowledge and demonstrating curiosity in emerging technologies.
